As volunteers with limited time and sometimes limited experience, setting the expectations with the executive leadership of an organization can be overwhelming. Setting clear communication expectations, understanding the roles within an organization, and building trust help our non-profits thrive. Signs of disfunction may include repeated complaints and/or confidential correspondence to the Board. Public comment criticizing leadership for a lack of transparency or action.
It is helpful to set clear expectations from the beginning, and I can help. However, at times an issue erupts and requires intervention and a facilitation to realign expectations. I work actively with Board executive committees, personnel committees and alongside executive directors to encourage and foster better understanding of expectations and develop communication plans to resolve conflicts or misunderstanding.
